Alex was absolutely the best tour guide we have ever encountered. His love, knowledge of and enthusiasm for the indigenous people of Chiapas made our day one of the most memorable experiences of our lifetime. Not so much a "tour" to see people and places, but an educational experience that allows your to "feel" the pulse of the culture. Highlights... More

Beyond being extremely knowledgeable and a truly excellent guide, Alex has spent a great deal of time getting to know the indigent people of the area and their history. I believe, in the 9 days we spent with this tour guide, we were taken to places that others could not get into because of the mutual respect between Alex and... More

All the other reviews are true: a tour with Alex is a great learning experience. He has a sophisticated world-view, boundless energy, and seemingly knows everyone and everything about the area. I only knew what I had read about the Mayan people before I arrived, but Alex made them come alive, with both humor and respect. As another plus, Alex... More

With a group of friends, I have just completed a fantastic trip to Chiapas. Such an impressive introduction to this fascinating Mexican state. Our guide, Alex Arunda, was a major factor in making the trip such a success. He is informative, funny, accommodating, helpful and passionate about his Chiapas. Alex and his wife, Joanna, were a great resource in planning... More

We were a group of 8 women travelling the area of San Cristobal. With Alex the trip came alive. His spirit and enthusiasm made each day better than the last... I have travelled extensively in Mexico in the last 10 years and this trip was awesome... He is welcomed and loved everywhere and therefore so were we. From the towns... More

Had the pleasure of having Alex guide myself, father and young European couple to three different cemeteries/communities on 11/1/11 (El Romerillo, San Juan Chamula and Zinacantin). A native Mexican who now lives in San Cristobal, Alex's English is fantastic and his knowledge of the people and ceremonies taking place made the entire experience. Thanks to him I was able to... We took a tour with Alex this morning to San Juan and another village. It was absolutely fascinating. Alex has a lovely rapport with the local people and they obviously respect him greatly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him if you visit San Cristobal de las Casas. More

Alex provided us with a highly informative tour. He was always happy to answer our many questions and discuss the context. It is evident that the local people really respect this man, and he them. We were greeted warmly everywhere we went and given very generous hospitality. My concern that we would be intruding on these peoples" private lives was... More
