Yet there are many places here that tourists rarely visit. We specialize in trips to these places. We offer day trips and tours of up to three weeks. Our intention is to show you the “real” Mexico, connecting culture with nature.Among the tours we offer are hikes from village-to-village high in the mountains, trips to see crocodiles and sea turtles at the beach and visits to healers who use ancient traditional healing methods. We are working to develop a sustainable tourism. One that brings economic resources to small communities and gives you the opportunity to discover Mexico in a different way, off the beaten trail. « less

This was our second trip with Tierraventura, and once again we had an enjoyable adventure. Both times we were taken off the tourist route and learned a great deal about the plants, birds and animals in the region. The first trip was hiking in the Sierra Norte with Yves, Claudia, my husband and another person. Recently it was only Yves... More

It feels a bit odd, reviewing the trip. It is much like posting an online review of a friend's party. Over two days, Yves, the American couple I was with, and I did the hike as a bunch of friends. Yves is tremendously knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna, and also about the local customs. The hikes were wonderful... More

Two families with three young men between us added a two day/one overnight visit to Pueblos Mancomunados to our ten day Oaxacan Escape From Christmas in the US adventure. So glad we did. The hiking was invigorating, beautiful vistas, great caves, fun to see how the sierras are different so far south from our California sierras. Pines, plus agave! I... More

We spent two days and one overnight up at Llano Grande, eating meals at local restaurants that Yves had selected. The towns in the mountains are collectives which own the cabanas and care for them. THe food was good home cooked Oaxacan fare, both the tierraventura guide and the Oaxacan guide (from towns near where we stayed) were friendly and... More

Moon Handbooks describes Santiago Apoala as "no less than a Oaxacan Shangri-La". But the logistics of getting to this small but charming farming village up in the Mixtec country, let alone arranging for food and lodging once there, were so intimidating, I despaired of ever getting there. But now there is a way--Tierraventura! Yves and company (in this case, Gordon)... More

1 day ecotourism hike/climb to remote rural village 3000m altitude near oaxaca, mexico. 45 year old village lady was guide, pointing our numerous local plants that are used as traditional remedies. Beautiful scenery, and a new challenge of climbing rocks. Felt very close to nature in a unique way. Saw a bit of the village. Truly unique enjoyable experience. Tierraventura... More

Tierraventura provides guided tours through parts of mexico an ordinary tourist would never venture otherwise and if certainly not in such a deep and "true" way. We hiked in the sierra norte, spendig a lot of time with local people and learning much about the real life in the mexican country apart from a touristic cliché. Claudia and Yves (our... More

Each time I look north, driving down Oaxaca State roads, I longed to visit the pristine forests of the Sierra Norte Mountains. Yves, at Tierraventura, gave me that opportunity. In theory, you can visit the Pueblos Mancomunados indigenous villages on your own. (See TripAdvisor’ s listing for Pueblos Mancomunados in the “Oaxaca - - > Things to Do” Section.) In... More

We did a beautiful 2 day overnight hike through Pueblo Mancomunados, visiting three villages and staying in very comfortable cabins in Llatuvi village (located spectacularly on top of a hill overlooking the valleys). We were accompanied by Yves and Claudia (Tierraventura) as well as local village guides who showed us the indigenous medicinal plants that are abundant in the area.... More
