This may be the single best collection of pre-columbian art in the world, certainly from an aesthetic point-of-view. All the pieces were collected by Oaxacan artist Rufino Tamayo for their beauty, not just historical importance. More

The figures are fascinating, but don't miss the four stone lions in the breeze way. More

A small gem of a museum with interpretive cards in each room. The way the ceramics are displayed is lovely. More

Rufino Tamayo rode on horseback to buy up the pre-Columbian art that people had found buried here and there. He preserved it in this cunning museum so all could appreciate it, rather than having it disappear into private collections. More

This museum is the collection of the late Oaxacan artist Rufino Tamayo. He was an early collector of objects taken from archeological sites, thereby saving much of it from the collectors' market. These objects are beautifully displayed and organized and the quantity isn't overwhelming. More

I am not into musuems that much, but I saw quite a few ancient art works that looked very modern there. My favorite ones were pottery made to look like my dog digger More

The museum showcases a wide range of artifacts from the pre-colonial period. Well worth the 40 peso admission. English and French descriptions are available. More
