The fretwork is beautiful, and the trip there from Ciudad Oaxaca is interesting, too. The EZLN had blocked off the main road in a village water rights protest, so along with getting a tour through the off the beaten path towns, we learned a bit about the local politics. I visited friends who are missionaries and live in Mitla now for about 16 years. It is dry and hot here and I love it. The town is very quaint and there a few things to see like the Mitla Ruins, The big Catholic church, the farmers market and of course the touristy little area to buy some great local... more
