We travelled to Mitla with Juan Montes-Lara, an excellent guide in Oaxaca. He is the most knowledgeable and interesting guide, so we went with him to Tule and Mitla one day and to Monte Alban. We learned so much with him as a guide. Highly recommend this site and also this amazing guide. More

As you know this is one of the most visited ruins in Oaxaca. Yes it is very small, I do advice to go here first and then to Monte Alban, because if you don't you might be a little disappointed. Mitla, as you know was the sanctuary of peace for the afterlife. It is more of a religious site. Outside... More

It's a given--the pre-historic sites of Oaxaca are a true gem for the country. In the same way Monte Alban was the epicenter of life for the Zapotecs and Mixtecs (and other indigenous groups), Mitla was the sanctuary of peace for the afterlife. Our tour guide was amazing and explained each of the major spots of Mitla, making it an... More

This is hardly a "ruin". I am sure there must be historical significance here, but it was lost on my group - There is a single unimpressive building and hardly anything else to see. Can be completely covered in 5 minutes. More

Mitla is absolutely amazing. It's very small but the ruins are incredibly well preserved-- the carvings are very well kept and there are 2 tombs you can enter. This is definitely a must see. Also, visit Mitla before going to Teotitlan del Valle, where you can see rugs that are designed after the carvings at Mitla. Awesome! Entrance to the... More

Mitla is very nice and small which is nice not a lot o walking here. Very close to Oaxaca City! The main buildings are easy to photograph since the steps of the ruins are not tiny. More

I experienced Mitla as part of a day tour for 300 pesos. We spent 10-hours sightseeing and it was well worth it! Do the tour and make sure to get a tour guide who speaks english so you can ask all sorts of questions like I did :) More
