It's a beautiful church well worth a visit if you find yourself in the Zocalo of Oaxaca. It may not be El Templo de Santo Domingo or el Carmen Alto, but it's certainly a piece of Oaxacan history. We were able to attend evening mass on Monday and found it lovely. More

This isn't the most beautiful church in the city, but it's smack in the center and it's definitely worth a visit when you're in the zocalo. Also, if you're in the city during a holiday, check to see if there are any light shows--several times a year the government projects shows on the front of the church, which are well... More

Quite impressive for this atheist! Also a very nice place to escape the heat of the zocalo on a hot day! More

There are more elaborate churches in the Centro, but if you are into Roman Catholicism, I guess you'd want to visit. Remember 250,000 natives were tortured and public ally burned a Oon the stake by this wonderful religion because they did not profess the "true" god. Unreal. More

The cathedral is a major structure in the zocalo area. However, it badly needs maintenance as compared to other churches in the city. More

Relatively simple, this cathedral features interesting characteristics like the barroque facade made of green cantera and a beautiful bronze sculpture of the Virgin of the Assumption in the altar, made by an italian artist. More

We were somewhat puzzled by the church, from the outside, it appeared enormous, but inside the main aisle was very narrow, ending in the altar. Much less impressive than the church of Santo Domingo. More

Along with Santo Domingo church, these two sites offer magnificent architecture and religious masses. Also the sites of local weddings, which are quite lovely to watch. Easily available. More

Linda, a local ex-pat artist, gives a walking tour of churches that leaves from in front of the Cathedral on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. Highly recommended. More
