My partner and I really enjoyed our cooking class at casa crespo, you get to make a great variety of things and you get a lot of control as a group as to what you choose to make. We made multiple salsas, tortillas and appetisers as well as two drinks and a mole and a dessert. The recipes get emailed... More

It wasn't a wasted day, but it was no where near what it could have been. Oscar, the teacher, really seemed not to enjoy teaching. Several of us thought he seemed annoyed by questions. He didn't engage with the class, or seem to put much energy into the experience. Too bad. Positive aspects were that others in the class were... More

What a truly fabulous day in cooking school with Oscar at Casa Crespo!! Our 12 year old daughter loved it as well. We learned to make all kinds of tortillas, went to a 'secret' market that I wished we had know about before, made Mole Colorado and tortilla soup...then, last but not least, chocolate tamales. You heard right- the famous... More

I found the class to be really good. But North Americans all have different standards -- and most don't have a clue so I will say this... THERE IS A WATER SHORTAGE IN OAXACA ...much like the one in California and the infrastructure is not as modern as it would be in a city like San Francisco or LA --... More

I wish I had read Tom's review on May 19th and walked out of this class as my gut told me to do - our experience was almost identical!!! During our $65 per person class, the running water had not yet been refilled so we had to bucket flush the toilet and wash our hands in bowl of water -... More

I think it's telling that even the 4 and 5 star reviews still refer to Oscar as "disengaged" and "uninterested," even if people enjoyed learning about cooking. We walked in and Oscar asked people if they wanted a drink. My wife asked for coffee and Oscar stared at her and let out a huge, long sigh. This basically set the... More

My sister and I did a birthday trip to Oaxaca and decided to do Oscar's cooking class. We had visited Oaxaca before, but the cooking class made me feel like an insider. We all got to decide what we wanted to cook, and the choices were amazing. Fortunately we all agreed, even on the avocado ice cream! Oscar took us... More

Such a fun afternoon, you have to do it! Oscar is an amazing chef, a great host and a good person! First you decide what you want to cook, with Oscar's help and guidance of course. Then you go to the market and buy all the ingredients fresh, come back and cook it all! It's fun, and he gets everyone... More

I echo many of the positive reviews below. The class begins with introductions over coffee or hot chocolate, bread and jam. Our group was diverse and interesting and we got along famously. When Oscar joined the group we planned our menu. We prepared dried corn kernels (soaked in water and lime, squeezed the skins off then drained) and then set... More

Only 10 in group.Oscar v hard to understand. Too fast around market.Food for lunch was good. Kitchen looked as if it had not been cleaned since day one. Too much 'hand' handling of food by everyone.Asked to wash our hands in barely a trickle from tap.Must be better elsewhere.
