I think it's telling that even the 4 and 5 star reviews still refer to Oscar as "disengaged" and "uninterested," even if people enjoyed learning about cooking. We walked in and Oscar asked people if they wanted a drink. My wife asked for coffee and Oscar stared at her and let out a huge, long sigh. This basically set the... More

My sister and I did a birthday trip to Oaxaca and decided to do Oscar's cooking class. We had visited Oaxaca before, but the cooking class made me feel like an insider. We all got to decide what we wanted to cook, and the choices were amazing. Fortunately we all agreed, even on the avocado ice cream! Oscar took us... More

Such a fun afternoon, you have to do it! Oscar is an amazing chef, a great host and a good person! First you decide what you want to cook, with Oscar's help and guidance of course. Then you go to the market and buy all the ingredients fresh, come back and cook it all! It's fun, and he gets everyone... More

I echo many of the positive reviews below. The class begins with introductions over coffee or hot chocolate, bread and jam. Our group was diverse and interesting and we got along famously. When Oscar joined the group we planned our menu. We prepared dried corn kernels (soaked in water and lime, squeezed the skins off then drained) and then set... More

Only 10 in group.Oscar v hard to understand. Too fast around market.Food for lunch was good. Kitchen looked as if it had not been cleaned since day one. Too much 'hand' handling of food by everyone.Asked to wash our hands in barely a trickle from tap.Must be better elsewhere.

It was a great experience. Started at the market learning about the local herbs, fruits, flowers.... Then we started the cooking. We did at least 6 different type of dishes. Oscar was kind, helpfull and a Good teacher. Worth going! Besides being fun, it was also Very interesting.

Oscar does an excellent class worth the 65 USD price tag. You begin by deciding as a group what you'd like to cook, then head to the market to get any ingredients that aren't already fresh in the kitchen. Oscar provides an educational market tour where you learn about the different types of chiles, herbs and produce. The class has... More

As an avid home cook, I was anxious to take this class, and I was not disappointed. Our class had 11 students. We started by picking the menu while enjoying bread, jam, coffee, and tea. While I thought it was interesting to have a say in the menu, it's hard to accomplish that with so many students... Particularly when everyone... More

I was delighted. The day was informative. Oscar really knows his chosen profession. Learning little tricks like adding the cumin or the grasshoppers to the salsa was enlightening and you could really taste the difference between them. So I loved that there was this great base recipe and then it would change. Marvelous. All chefs need to add their own... More

My partner and I were very excited to do a cooking course in Oaxaca. However, when we first arrived it felt like we were in the wrong place. A cook from the kitchen could find no record of our booking despite us receiving a confirmation email the day before. He sat us down, we wondered whether the course would happen... More
