My adult children suggested we visit this museum next to the main buIlding of the University of Guanajuato. From the name I expected a history museum so was pretty surprised as it ismostly contemporary art. The art is good and very unusual.

If you are walking from the Centro to say the Alhondiga, this very nice little museum is on the way and you should devote some time to it: Wonderful murals by Chavez Morado, pottery, miniatures, oils and more. The entrance fee is a very reasonable 20 pesos. Also along the Calle Positos is Diego Rivera's house, and museum, which is... More

Incredible collection of miniature toys. No need for a translator. I didn't experience my normal "museum fatigue" in this place. It was delightful.

From the outside it doesn't look like much but this museum has a great collection of folk art, including an extensive collection of miniatures, and upstairs beautiful paintings and prints, including a special exhibit on the work of the print maker Posada (think skeletons). My favourite were the oil portraits by Bustos. Also, there is a good deal offered in... More

This interesting museum has three floors of different kinds of art. We absolutely loved the enormous murals going up the walls of the indoor outdoor staircase, depicting the history of Mexico and the oppression by the Spanish and the church. Very dramatic. It is true that one gets a lot more from this museum being able to read Spanish (my... More

Walking in I didn't know what to expect. I thought it was going to be a small museum, but it turned out that it had 3 floors of absolutely beautiful paintings and photographs. It is an awesome museum to visit to get a feel for the local culture and heart warming Guanajuatenses.

We visited this on the last day of our trip and were delighted to find it was so compact and manageable. We weren't sure what to expect and were delighted with the miniatures. The signage could have been better, but the skill involved in preparing the exhibits was impressive.

Hard to miss, right next to the University steps, the City Museum has an small but representative selection of Mexican art. Good introduciton to local talent Hermenegildo Bustos (a revelation for me).
