Guanajuato is a bustling city and can feel noisy and crowded at times. Fifteen minutes away by local bus is an oasis, the exhacienda San Gabriel de Barrera. It's such a peaceful place. Beautiful gardens flourish, and it felt like I had them all to myself on a Tuesday afternoon. The exhacienda is interesting, furnished as it was when people... More

For an entrance fee of 23mxn pesos plus an additional 21mxn pesos for taking photos, you can be admitted inside Exhacienda San Gabriel de Barrera. There are different themed gardens in the area. Landscaping doesn't have to be just planting arrangements. This hacienda did very well with the combination of concrete, wood, steel structures and a wide assortment of plants... More

It was a nice, quiet place that is well taken care of. Their gift shop was small but I was able to find something interesting there. It is worth a visit for sure.

This hacienda was build in the 1700's and the house and gardens have been restored and are really nice. The gardens are Mexican, Japanese, and English styles.

An incredible and peaceful place. Amazing gardens and areas to experience. We visited during a slow Saturday afternoon and we're lucky enough to be given a personal guided tour (English) of the house by a fine gentleman named Carlos. Ask for him and you won't be disappointed.

My children and I love walking in botanical gardens, and the ex-hacienda is worth the longer taxi ride to visit. Beautiful gardens based on different parts of the world. The house is also interesting to visit to see how the wealthy of Guanajuato lived in the past.

We thoroughly enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of 17 gardens styles set in three acres, as well as the splendour of the hacienda's main house.

I took a local bus in front of the bank at the "plaza de la Paz". (5.50 pesos one way). There are many busses stops, so be sure to look for the bus that says "diseño" or "marfil". Won't hurt to ask the driver, so that he will tell you when to get off.(obviously we almost kept going, unless he... More

This was a highlight of our trip to GTO. There is such high energy in GTO, that spending a few hours in this lovely spot helped to take the edge off. It's super easy to get to, all the taxi drivers can get here quickly. Loved it very much and can't wait to return.

Absolutely the most incredible backdrop for photography that I have ever seen. A wedding shoot was taking place...what a romantic setting...my friend and I were in complete awwwwe! The hacienda gardens are (heavily manicured) I prefer a less pretentious setting myself. Gene Byron and Las Trancas haciendas are my favorites as they are kept up as natural as possible. Having...
