There is a reason that Mexican come to Lake Chapala. It is Mexico´s largest lake set within in a ring of mountains, at 5,200 feet it is truly where the sky meets the lake. Any day is a good day to walk along the Lake front, but Sundays, when the Malecons are filled with families enjoying themselves, is a special... More

Festivals and other celebrations really add to the beautiful setting of this charming country village. Regardless of your faith, the Ajijic Passion Play is a moving experience that puts the usual 2-hour stage performances to shame, and it's an event that engages the entire local community. Read a firsthand account of the Good Friday performance and procession - and see... More

A little bit of background, my folks were vacationing at lake Chapala and I came by for a visit. My folks are in their mid 80's and they fit in quite well. It's a mature place, lots of retired Canadians and u.s. expats living here--------I mean lots. And what's not to like----eternal spring like weather, cocktail hour specials that start... More

For the longest time, I wanted to visit this area as I had heard that it had the perfect weather (Eternal Spring). We visited the town of Chapala and Ajijic witch are both by the lake and have about the same population of around 10,000 inhabitants. Now with a walmart, it looks less and less Mexican. English is spoken almost everywhere... More

Lake Chapala offers a beautiful climate, noteworthy cultural opportunities and some excellent restaurants (especially in Ajijic). My first impression was only "ok", but it grows on you day by day until you truly appreciate the beauty of the area. More

If the weather is wonderful in Guadalajara, it is even better right next to the lake. There are lots of restaurants, local and otherwise, around the lake, and you can go for a boat tour. I have heard there are manatee in the lake, but I haven't personally seen any..yet. More
