We enjoyed our visit to the reserve very much, but I would caution others not to make the same mistake we did, which was to go on a cold, partly cloudy day in January. Didn't realize how weather-sensitive the little guys were until we arrived. The butterflies would just start to take flight as sunshine flooded the forest, and then...

I visited this magical place a couple of years ago. It is truly a spiritual experience. I cannot wait to return, hopefully next year. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience a true wonder and mystery of how the butterflies return to the same place every year. They (the monarchs) come thru parts of Texas around this...
