We went at 9:00 am to las gatas to miss the crowds, when we got there there weren't too many people, mostly workers setting up for the day. The water is definitely bluer and clearer than at other zihua beaches. The sand is nice and in general a nice place. Of course, the beach is packed with restaurant after restaurant... more

Nice, calm on-the-beach restaurant toward the end of the row. Ask for Scott, a super-friendly ex-patriot from Colorado (with a cool little dog, Jazz). He's great; food is, too... more

Let me start by saying we visited Las Gatas during the off season so there were no crows to deal with or water taxi lines. We also were not charged to sit down or use any of the lounge chases. Once we got to the beach we were haggled to tip the kids standing by the water taxi ramp. Just... more

I have to agree with some of the other post about Las Gatas beach chair policy. what a rip off. We took the water taxi over in the early morning, it was our last day in Ziwuat and we had yet to go over there. We were one of the first people there. We took a chair at the first... more

Las Gatas was by far the worst experience of our trip. (Read trilinearmipmap's comments for additional info). The beach is anything but a white sand (as one guide book described it) calm, quiet get away. Currently, it costs 35 pesos (standard "street" exchange rate is 10 pesos to $1and you can pay in either dollars or Pesos) round trip to... more

My wife and I went to Playa Las Gatas last week and it was an extreme disappointment and waste of time. We took the boat across the harbour, the boat ride was pleasant but that was the only nice part of the trip. On arriving at Playa Las Gatas we found that the entire beach was taken up by restaurants... more

I wasn't sure how to spell Otilia so I just retrieved Franco's shirt, which he litterally gave me off his back...ok I traded him some stuff. We landed at Otilia during a cruise on the Mexican Riveria. Got into Zihuatanego, took a lancha (water taxi)...go with the guys nearest the pier,...it takes about ten minutes more or less to get... more

The only safe way to get to Las Gatas is to take a lancha (water taxi) from the municipal pier. The cost is 35 pesos; keep your ticket which is collected on the return trip. We always go to Otilio's which is the second to the last restaurant with the bright red umbrellas. Francisco is your host; he is very... more

Playa Las Gatas is south of Zihuatanejo. It is very difficult to walk there, besides being a long walk, the last part of the walk involves walking on a rocky section of shoreline. The best way to get to Playa Las Gatas is to go to the municipal pier in Zihuatanejo. You can walk to the pier from Zihuatanejo or... more

We spent a day on Las Gatas beach intending to do some snorkeling..we went early in the morning and amidst all the restaurants and palapas, by luck we happened to be swayed by Franco at the Restaurant Otillia (you can't miss it....it's toward the end of the beach with all the bright red umbrellas) with the promise of a better-than-best... more
