First time I was here we were alone on the 7 mile beach. We saw lots of birds, plus dolphins and even a whale. In the morning the waves were perfect for bodysurfing. By the end of the day they were 15 feet tall and we just bobbed around in them. One of the beachside restaurants was open and we... More

Ixtapa and Zihuatanego are full of the wrong crowds I want to see when I travel. I want my experience to be as local as possible and as far away from my neighbors from Los Angeles! :) When you go there you will appreciate and understand what I mean. You will fall in love again and again, several times a... More

Only about 20 minutes by car from downtown Zih and not far from Ixtapa/Zih airport. Traveling with a local friend started our exploration on the north end of the beach. Then went to explore the near by archeological dig of the Tomil/Cuitateco/Tepozteca Culture. That area still being expored and unearthed. And then had lunch at a local spot near the... More

Four of us went to Playa Larga while staying in Zihuatanejo. We took a cab and it was very reasonable, like $12 US. We found a place called "Popeye" which had beach front tables under the palapa and lounge chairs to sit in the sun. The food was outstanding and also quite reasonable. The drinks were ice cold and the... More

Playa Larga is found just off the highway to the ZIH airport, about 15 minutes south of Zihuatanejo proper. Other reviews for this beach area seem spot-on; it's a quiet spot with a very long beach, spectacular to watch the waves pounding away on shore... Several visits but still the surf has been too powerful for us to brave the... More

couple mile long soft sand ,clean beach. literally walked for 30 minutes and didn't pass anyone. Moderate surf, didn't try it but suspect possible undertoe. Couple of beachfront restaraunts with chairs and shade, very good food. 200 peso cab ride from Zihuatanejo.

Come to this beach if you want solitude with a few restaurants offering good fare for reasonble rate. The beach is long (ergo the name) but the surf is formidable at best. Take a small bus to the highway, walk or pay a guy to drive the rest of the way. Many firms from Zihua use this place for "team-building"... More

Playa Larga is the area at the north end of this beach. Very few people. The day I was there the waves were way to big for swimming and I was told that the rip tides are really strong. I just enjoyed peacefully walking as far as I could. Make sure to bring some type of footwear as the sand... More

It would have been 5 star but the ocean in that area has some nasty rip tides and was recommended not to swim or body surf. Walked the beach and had drinks and lunch at one of the beach side stops. Fantastic service, food and prices. Hard to believe that a beach like that might of had 20 people within... More

Off the beaten path, away from the Mexican/Canadian/US tourists, sits a sparsely covered stretch of beach to the South. If you can find the smoothly paved back road, notice the beach front property, and quiet little hotels as you drive to the extreme south of the beach. A lagoon blocks your journey, but you have arrived, A number of little... More
