Since 2000 this ceramic gallery at the airport of Puerto Vallarta exhibits and sale The exquisite Mata Ortiz Pottery, the finest in Mexico and possibly in the world. Inspired by the ancient pre-hispanic culture of Paquimé, with the hands only and in open fires, their designs are innovative and have developed their own distinctive styles. Also the amazing Mata Ortiz Jewelry in .950 silver. With this new unique gallery ambitious owners Claudia Lovera and Alejandro Martinez are working hard to be one of the most important Galleries in Mexico specialized in Ceramics, they have been expanding to new incredible visions of Mexican expressions now with their New Artists Gustavo Pérez that had exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, Mariana Velazquez, Cristina Riveroll and more.

I agree with the comments previously posted. The Mata Ortiz pottery is uniquely beautiful ... generally simple and yet exquisite designs: crafted entirely by hand without a potter's wheel!
Claudia is a lovely person and her husband Alejandro is a great birding guide ... we took 2 birding tours with Alex in 2005 and will be back with him next...

Puerto Vallarta can be full of tourist-y junk so it was great to find Claudia and Alex Martinez's Mata Ortiz Art Gallery (pottery and jewelry) at 268A Lazaro Cardenas in the Zona Romantico. Claudia really is a fine person to deal with. She is very friendly and knowledgeable. She knows many of these potters personally and she and Alex are...
