The island has nice, but somewhat crowded beaches, packed with restaurants. The nice thing is that the water in one of the beaches, Varadero, is very calm and great for kids to swim in. The corals are very close to the beach, so also nice for kids to get there. We went there with a water taxi, no need to... more

Each person's experience is unique and ours was a disappointment. We had read the reviews regarding the island and we were looking forward to an adventure. We took a taxi from our hotel to where the water taxi takes you to the island. When we arrived, there was a small market section and right away we were harassed to come... more

In general the beaches on this little island are like every other, umbrellas, lounge chairs, inexpensive beer. The little secret is to go to restaurant Ixtapa and ask for Ray. He can set you up for their private dining area on the back side of the island. They have the most amazing red snapper dish (smoked, not grilled) with fresh... more

Do not book the tour to Ixtapa Island; go there on your own. Take the bus and get off at the end of the line. Walk across the street and head to your right. On the way towards the market, you'll see a viewpoint. Stop and check out the alligators, turles and iguanas. It's free. Walk through the market and... more

We've been to Isla Ixtapa 3 times now - the most recent just a couple weeks ago (Jan 2008). We go primarily for the snorkeling at Playa Coral. The fish are large and plentiful but you have to be there early (before 10 AM) while the water is still crystal clear. By afternoon so many people have churned up the... more

My husband and I spent an afternoon at Isla Ixtapa in Nov 2007. There are two swim beaches and a snorkeling beach. The waves were starting to pick up at the snorkeling beach, which faces the Pacific so we did not snorkel. The swim beaches are very small, good for children and perfect for a dip to cool off. We... more

Nov. 2006, Just returned from a week in Ixtapa / Zihua and had a ball. There is so much to do that you could stay busy every day, or just laze around and do nothing. Went one day over to Ixtapa Island, and I highly recommend it. Take a taxi from your hotel and then catch the water taxis to... more

we were in Zih/Ixtapa for 10 days - 2 of which we spent on isla ixtapa (mid june, 2006). it's the low season so there weren't many tourists. the water for all three beaches were crystal clear and stunning. playa coral has some reef, but it's obvious that it's not cozumel or cayman islands, nor do they claim to be.... more

In Jan.2004 we ordered lobster & prawms from afriendly waiter who insisted that I order as the rest in our group had. After insisting that I order, he said he would give a little surprise with my order. The surprise was "marinaded strips of uncook fish" which I only sample. Two days later I was deadly sick with septic shock.... more

As many people know El palmer beach hotel zone has very rought water, Ixtapa island has the opposite, one side is for snorkleing and the other is for calm water and relaxation. We went over to ixtapa island and mainly stayed on the side opposite of the snorkling. The water was very calm and clear and plent of pool loungers.... more
