None visits this church because of mass, they go there because it is a symbol of the city, only those with $$$ get married here, if you wonder during weekends, you might see people getting married and the body guards waiting outside stopping strangers from walking in, visit inside and take pictures, worth the trip.

We visited the cathedral for an evening wedding in August. With all of the lighting and amazing acoustics, it was a wonderful experience - very romantic, beautiful, and historic. Monterrey is the third most important city in the country, but there are at least 30 more important cathedrals in Mexico. This one is very simple, very re-painted, with a narrow nave and a plain altar.

Since Monterrey only became the great city it is in the past 100 years the cathedral is not one of the great baroque or churrugesque type buildings that you will find in other old cities like Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí etc. The nice part is the little side chapel on the left which is older and prettier in my opinion
