These volunteers dig up nests, safely incubate the eggs in a greenhouse, and when it is time on a full moon night they release them into the sea. Some will come back as adults and lay eggs on this same beach years from now.

While I was on vacation in Todos Santos, my boyfriend and I took the opportunity to see the hatchlings make it to the surf. I can't tell you how amazing the experience was, watching these tiny creatures be swallowed up by the sea. Francesca (the owner) does a fantastic job at educating the children and the adults who were there... More

I recently stayed in Todos Santos, volunteering for Tortugueros Las Playitas for 2 months (January 25- March 31). For my stay, I was comfortably accommodated in a casita at La Sirena Eco Adventure. The day I arrived in T.S., there was a sea turtle release that I was able to participate in right away. It was a truly life changing... More

Re JPC Neves: Are we talking about the same turtle project? I've been to 3 turtle releases in 3 years and each time I'm in awe of those tiny hatchlings heading bravely into the surf. I've noticed that frequently children with their parents gather aroung Francesca to ask her questions, some in Spanish, some in English. Fluent in both languages,... More

I have watched and read about all the hurdles our earth's sea turtles have to overcome to survive, only to continue to slip away in numbers, threatening their ultimate success at surviving in "our" world. In Todos Santos, through the Tortugueros Las Playitas Sea Turtle Conservation Project, I saw a number of those "hurdles" reduced to zero and saw the playing... More

We stayed until sunset- watching each one of the 80 olive Ridley baby sea turtles wash into the Pacific. The huge waves carrying the turtles out would occasionally wash them back- and they'd begin their journey all over again (walking by themselves builds muscles- so that's why they aren't just plunked into the sea.) It's amazing to see these babies... More

…This is the perfect volunteer project for you! This project is basically marine turtles aimed. No other animals or ecological perspectives are really approached within the fundamental objectives of this project. From the conservation standpoint, it falls short in two crucial perspectives: an ecosystem conservation approach and sound environmental education. As a tourist, you will probably be lucky if you... This is just one of the unique things that sets this town apart from others. Turtle hatching and releasing, these little guys are insane.

A little off the beaten path, but worth the experience. We confirmed the release by checking their facebook page, rented a car from Los cabos. We drove up, had lunch at the hotel California and then headed to the beach. Once we arrived we were just amazed at how beautiful the beach line was. It is untouched natural beauty. The... More

This sea turtle conservation project is well run and fun to visit. They release the turtles around sunset every day that they have hatchlings. Be sure to check in with them earlier in the day so that you don't show up with nothing to see. It's a lot of fun guessing which turtles will get washed away by the powerful... More
