It's all relative

Most of the little towns of the Baja California peninsula that I have seen have little churches to match. This one was relatively large and very peaceful and pretty.

Thought it was the original church but it is a recently constructed replica of the church. Doesn't feel old world or particularly Catholic. Not really historic.

When in Cabo San Lucas on our Panama Canal Cruise, we took the "Todos Santos & Hotel California" tour. We went up the cost to the town of Todos Santos. One of our stops was at the Misione de Nuestra Senora de Pilar. We found it to be a peaceful and quiet place, around the corner from Hotel California and... More

The Mission is right beside the Hotel California. It was very quiet when I was there with no mass occurring. The inside is beautifully decorated and is well worth checking out if you are in the area.

This 300 year old church is just a block from Hotel California. The church is very quaint and rich in heritage. The church boats a bronze sculpture of Mary, Joseph and Jesus, by artist Benito Ortega Vargas. I had the great pleasure of meeting him, at his studio which is less than 100 yards from the church.

I found myself in front of the church and went in, sat down and stayed for the Spanish mass. I felt welcomed, even though I didn't participate. What a lovely experience. I watched families sing and pray, while I did my own praying. I always like going into different churches, temples etc. in different countries. This small church was a... More

I know, I know --- it's a church not Disneyland but I thought it was just plain and quaint. Nothing to write home about. I have been to some spectacular churches and missions in my travels and just felt blah about this one. Don't strike me down but if you miss it - no biggie.

The Misione de Nuestra Senora de Pilar is a beautiful, well preserved mission church. It won't take much of your time to see the church, so stop by and have a look inside. The stained glass windows and the simple decorations are very beautiful.

Yes, this is the mission that is mentioned in the famous Eagle's song, Hotel California. As a matter of fact, the hotel and restaurant are just down the block from the mission, and I'm sure you could "hear the mission bells" from either. This is a very old but extremely well kept mission, which is still in use today. It... More
