Cholaya “Ya” Laothong’s Thai cookery school is hidden away in a leafy suburb behind touristy Ao Nang, and her school is adjacent to her house, in a large open pavilion. Ya introduces herself to us in our work area of shiny stainless steel worktops and wok burners. She recounts her life experiences, some of which are extraordinary, and her warm... More

My newly wed wife and i went there after seeing a travel show on television in Australia. While on our honeymoon, we booked the afternoon session for the cooking school. We were the only two there in the class so we got one-one-one with mrs ya herself. She was the loveliest woman and the food we made surpassed any thai... More

Had a wonderful time with Ya at her cooking class. Have been to other classes in the past but this was the only one where we were taught how to make fresh curry pastes - all the colours of the rainbow. Now understand all about chop, chop then bang bang. So much food, so much fun cooking it. Novices as... More

Ya, is very friendly, as is all her staff, she takes out the mystery of Thai cooking, relaxed fun, and learn.t techniques not available in books. As she say's it's Chop Chop, then Bang Bang, followed by love, that's what cooking is all about.

Ya is amazing and her story is heart touching. All the food is delicious. So nice of her to share her recipes! If you go to Krabi, her class is a must! My husband and I left with full stomachs and a very enjoyable day!

Everything was so well organised and we were collected from the hotel. The food we cooked was delicious and the staff are so friendly and polite. Making a Thai curry paste from scratch was so educational and so much fun. Made me appreciate the work that goes into Thai food. After the lesson, you are given a souvenir book with... More

As a former professional chef, I can confidently say that this is one of the most thorough cooking classes I've been to. I learnt how to make 4 different Thai curry pastes, Spring Rolls, Pad Thai , Papaya Salad, Stir Fried Chicken with holy basil, Stir fried morning glory & Mango + sticky rice all from scratch, and had a... We booked the afternoon cooking class with Ya. Not only is she very friendly and entertaining, she is also a good cook and teacher, and the classes are very well organised. The food we prepared was great, Ya explains everything very clearly (I went there with my two daughters 10 and 13 years old, they had a great time). We... More

Ya the cookery teacher was fantastic. She showed us how to cook many Thai dishes from scratch. The class was fun and very organised.
