Lovingly surrounded by nature, the troglodyte site of la Magnanerie de Bourré will amaze visitors longing for a different experience. Overlooking the Cher valley, this true paradise will leave no one untouched. Come and feel the serenity of a world made of galleries secretly hidden within a sunny hillside. Oh yes, some people are lucky enough to live there ... and it will be their pleasure to show you around : the old "tuffeau" galleries (where the Loire castles stones were quarried), the 17th century silkworm farm (learn all about silk production in the region and the rearing of silkworms) and the traditional cave dwellings (hear about everyday life inside the rock).Access to the site is by guided tour only. The hour-long visit is fun, educational and guided by one of the inhabitants. So, if you wonder why and how people still live "in there" nowadays : feel free to ask. Your host will be more than happy to explain. The tours can be offered both in French and English

We had the pleasure of visiting La Magnanerie in Borre France and what a delightful place. The owners, Laurent and Laurent are so passionate about their tourist attraction. Exploring the caves and hearing about the history is so enjoyable. I loved seeing and hearing about the raising of the silk worms. I look forward to going back in the near... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic droglodytic experience. Laurence gave us an exceptional private tour. He was very informative and passionate about his newly acquired home. We were intrigued by the homes that have been created in the caves as well as learning about the silkworms and the silk process. As mentioned the walk up is steep but so worth it.... More

We were staying at Domaine de Dugny and this Troglodyte dwelling is only about 20 minutes away. It is a beautiful place and we had a tour, all to ourselves, with the informative host who also lives in the property. The gardens are lovely and the home and silk worm stores are full of interesting artefacts. Worth a visit.

We were staying at Domain de Dugny and my son was fascinated by the idea of the troglodyte houses and caves. I have originally planned to take him to the mushroom museum but their tour was completely in French, however the guidebook mentioned La Magnanerie as being nearby so I took him on the off-chance. It was a great experience,... More
