A white deserted beach; birds nesting under the eaves in the pretty village; scenery to die for. Where were we? A Carribean island? Wrong anwer! We were on the North East coast of England in Northumberland. The drive along the North East coast was splendid. We were so near the city of Newcastle, but it felt like we'd dropped off... More

Lovely wild beach, easily accessed and great bird watching. Swans, herons, gulls, curlews, ducks......if it's a bird that likes water, it's probably visited.

This reserve is terrible, we I went I never saw a bird. There are flies everywhere and it stinks of sewage. The visitor centre had an arson attack 3 years ago and all they have done to repair it is knock it down. As the old visitor centre has been destroyed, there are no toilets on site and they haven't... Went to Hauxley Nature Reserve with family for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Nice walks and plenty of bird hides to watch them in their natal habitat. Picnics areas are available. Although this is only a short way from surrounding villages and roads it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. A must for bird watchers... More

Took a packed lunch and binoculars and had a lovely couple of hours here, walking round with family and watching the birds and wildlife. Could easily have spent much longer here. Very peaceful and the hides are well located and plenty of maps/pictures on the walls to help kids (and indeed any non-expert !) to identify the wide range of... More

the setting is idyllic and you can walk through to the beach, which has some great views. A very peaceful and relaxing day out. I love going here :)

I used to have a caravan on a park walking distance away. I came to this reserve nearly every single weekend. It has lovely walks and hides to view out over the lake. There is lot's of wildlife to see. If your passing by I would certainly recommend stopping and spending some time here.

Lovely setting, walked to the fabulous beach from the carpark, would have enjoyed a nice coffee but everywhere was shut up, even though the weather was wonderful during the first week of March.

The whole place is beautiful whether whatever age you view it. I don't go very often due to living here for 20 years, but every-time I do go I'm blowing away by its beauty! Loads of wild animals, bird huts and a lovely trip out! It can only improve once the new centre is build and up and running! The... More
