The square is surrounded my many different restaurants and is a gathering place for everyone in Port Lucaya. The entertainment starts about dusk and it is usually local musical talent. One can hear almost anything good and not so good, but when things are free anything could happen. People seem to let their children run wild there and anything goes.... More

The synthesized music blaring from the Count Basie Square is synthesize repetitive noise. I asked a local if she liked the music. She said and that the new owner changed it is NOT liked by the locals or the vast majority of tourists. Please go back to jazz and blues or live music. Get rid of the synthesized stuff.

If you like live entertainment, show up at the square every evening (when the weather cooperates). There are plenty of places to find food around there and bring it to the seating area to listen to the native bands. We'll never forget the first time we heard, "Who Put the Pepper in the Vaseline?!?" A classic!

Wonderful shopping for just about anything you could want from Jewelry at Bulls to Bahamian market items. A lot of franchise shops and restaurant but lots of local restaurants too. Best Conch Salad at Mr. Brown Hut on the water.

Even though Count Basie Square is in the midst of the bustling Port Lucaya Marketplace, it's a great place to sit down, relax, people watch and listen to music whenever there are either performers or other music wafting from the Square. Mid-day through late afternoon can be very hot, so be prepared with sunscreen, a hat, or some other protection... More

This is a good place to visit. Lots of restaurants, bars, shops, tours and all sorts of other touristy things. It's very colorful and very Bahamian. There is a large marina there with lots of nice boats to look at also. It's a real hot spot!

when we were there it was daytime and nothing going on much. there was someone playing music. We sat at the tables and had a drink. It's clean and a good view of the Bell Channel if you need a sit down break from shopping.

I love that this is a multi-generational, multi-racial event where everyone goes to listen to the music and dance. The littler kids have an av bsolute ball.
