I liked the fact that the artists are motivated to crearte and to earn income. I enjoyed seeing the creativity of the artisans. Sometimes you simply want to walk through and not be asked numerous times to come into a shop and buy something. The way that the shops are arranged can be a little overwhelming when trying to focus... More

The first impression of the straw market can be alittle overwhelming but this is a place for the locals to try to sell some product. I found that if you state that you are willing to take a look around in peace, the vendors are fairly respectful of your shopping experience. The individual stores do have alot of the same... More

The straw market is a must see I suppose. You get harassed by the local to buy their items.. every vendor carries the same stuff. You can get some deals. Overall its a tourist trap of junk you really dont need.

Expensive shopping here in freeport - finally found t shirts at 5 dollars at the very back of the market. very industrial but after it stopped raining was able to get off the ship and spend about 90 minutes there. Fun times had by all.

Our whole family took a 7 day cruise to Freeport, Bahamas and Nassau, Bahamas; (November7-13, 2012)and when they let us off the ship, we walked around and took pictures. It was our first time going on a cruise(me and my sisters, my baby brother, my mom and my dad). And I bought a Bahamas bag and some souvenirs. The whole... More

Only a couple of shops are there. I found most of the items to be very pricy, even after bargaining. Hold off your shopping for Nassau if that's your next stop on the cruise. Selection and prices are much better there.

Right at the cruise ship port is the straw market area there are also some food stands. Burger Boy does a cracked fried lobster tail with fries for 12 bucks it was well worth it and tasted great. The straw market is good if you want to pick up some inexpensive gifts and you can also haggle on the price... More

If you want to buy inexpensive gifts with an island flare this Straw market or the one in Nassau. Nassau is bigger & you can probably negotiate even better deals, but so much more to do in Nassau, so I'd gifts here. Just don't pay whatever the asking price is. Negotiate & get a great deal. It's adjacent to the... More

Nice to check out once, but with the tough economic times the vendors can be very pushy and made us avoid the straw market whenever we were in Lucaya. As other have mentioned the items are pretty much the same from booth to booth and everyone will tell you that they hand make the baskets, not sure about the baskets... More

Got to do some souvenir shopping at some great prices. Disappointed that we didn't have more time. Loved the people and shop owners...they were ready to sell and sometime more than helpful.
