Get out to Red Hook on the east end of St. Thomas and take the ferry (runs hourly) over to St. John for a day trip! Once there, you can easily catch a tourist taxi (right there at the dock) that stops at all the beaches and pick and choose which beaches to go to. We went to Hawksnest Bay... More

Took car ferry over to St. John and then back at the end of the week. This was great way to go so we didn't gave to schlep our luggage everywhere- just stowed in the back of rental jeep at airport and then unloaded when we reached our hillside villa on St John. Never had to leave the car.

We used the ferry to go to St John and few times during our week stay and once to Jost van Dyke. The girls that work at the ticket counter are the rudest, most unfriendly people I have EVER encountered- ANYWHERE. I'm sure they get tired of answering the same questions over and over, day after day but its your job!... More

The ferry is 14$ for a round trip and takes you over to St. Johns Island. About 15-20 min ride. Shopping right when you get off. Very safe but stay in the main shopping area. Great bar right at dock to sit and watch people and sip cocktails.

Ferry was used, but clean. While it ran close to on time, don't cut it to close if you have specific timing to make connections. Time runs differently in the VI.

We want to warn you that if you have a flight to catch make sure you allow plenty of time. We thought we were going to be OK with making the 10:30 ferry and we found out one ferry was out of service and the next ferey would be at 11:30 am. Needless to say we were just a wee... More

We rented a condo in Bolongo Bay, St. Thomas, and took our rental car from Red Hook, St. Thomas to Cruz Bay, St. John on three different times. We used all three companies that operate car barges/ferries from Red Hook. The companies are: 1)Boyson Inc.;2) Love City Car Ferries; and 3) Global Marine's Tug Life. They all operate from the... The Red Hook Ferry is an adventure that I would like to repeat regularly. The ferry staff are almost friendly and the folks at the ticket counter and the deli counter are wonderful. We encountered such friendly people here that we pinched ourselves to see if we were dreaming.

i loved it - snorkled then beach time , good food and drinks. Met lots of nice people. But at the secnd stop ...the beach ..some people opted for more snorkeling but I chose a 45 minute beach stay and I had trouble getting back in the boat -I am not too athletic, but I am thin...well lots of people...
