This was a very cool spot and worth the effort. Just don't underestimate the hike. It's in a rainforest, steep and remote. However the reward is unforgettable. Tide pools are beautiful! Bring a mask, sturdy shoes and water to drink. Don't forget the camera and take your time. There's lots to see along the way.

The trail starts at the upper Carambola Parking lot and wind up and down becoming quite narrow at times. The year I went, there was a wasp nest i a tree right on the trail. Going was OK. On the way back, nearly slipped of the trail because of wasps. The tidal pools are relatively small but a real treat.

Most of the rain forest hike is easy, only the first bit from the resort is steep. Trail is narrow, slippery, rocky in places, and carved out of a steep hillside, but easy. Getting into the tidal pools requires some rock climbing on volcanic rock. We were lucky to be there with no one else.

Review is purely subjective: Only reason I give it an average rating is because of the lack of directions to make it to the pools. There are no real signs that tell you how to get there, only directions given by people which can be conflicting at times. If you attempt to make it there on your own make sure... More

Getting to the Tide Pools can be a real trip and walking over the stones can be rough on your feet unless you have proper shoes on for protection, but when the roar of the water coming over the cliffs approaches and the water cascades over, it is the most arvelous water massage on your back and shoulders.

If you ever go to St. Croix the tide Pools are a must see. You will not be disappointed. You have to do a little rock climbing, but my 83 year old mother-in-law did it. Rent a jeep or you have a long hard hike ahead of you. You can also go with Tan Tan tours.

The waves were really big on the day we went. It was so much fun and so exhilarating. We had the whole place to ourselves after the jeep excercusion left. It was a once in a life time experience I do believe. We sat under the reef and when the waves came they would crash over us and it was... More

We were told you could hike there from the guard shack at the resort. We are hikers, but after hiking a good 20-30 minutes at a steep incline, we still were not at the top. Seeing that we were going up a mountain, and realizing that we would have to go down, then repeat it for the return trip, we... More

Really wasn't an option because my friend said we are hiking it. Def use shoes to hike, I've hiked in costa rica and puerto rico to see some type of waterfall or pool and used flip flops. Don't use flip flops! You def need the shoes for traction for the uphill, downhill, 2 mile trail. Bring water, snacks, and a towel. Went... More
