This is the beach seen at the end of the Shawshank Redemption. Beautiful place but off limits during turtle nesting. No shelter from the sun! We went also as part of an group organized by the Parks Service to watch turtles nesting. We were not disappointed!

We saw the beach last year. It closes to public during turtle nesting season. Beautiful white sand beach on west end.

We were lucky enough to visit this beach on the last day of March before it closed for the season! We stopped at all three parking areas and explored. The third, and also the farthest, parking area is the best! There is very little shade, so it is best to go early or late in the day. Beautiful, beautiful views... More

Did you know this is where the last scene in the movie Shawshank Redemption was filmed? Its a beautiful beach but its only open on the weekends to protect the natural habitat of local turtles. I would recommend visiting if you have time and are staying in Frederiksted.

This beach is at the southwestern tip of the island. It is only open on the weekends and is closed during turtle nesting. White, powdery sand for miles, a beautiful beach to walk. No amenities provided. A must see!

I had the pleasure of going to Sandy Point...and it was amazing. Pristine sand and blue waters! My group lucked out as we were essentially the only people in sight! With Frederiksted pier/boats in the distance, I felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Yes access is limited to weekends only til 4pm, but little known fact, they... More

We walked all the way along the beach from Friederiksted to Sandy Point. Though sandy point is beautiful, walking all the way there had a very special charm. Make sure to take water, sunscreen and a hat with you, there is nothing along the beach. Some parts can get rocky. Use appropriate shoes. The walk is long but it's worth... More

This beach is impossible to describe because it is so beautiful. It i only opened on the weekends and is pristine and unspoiled and the water is the most amazing shade of turquoise!

This beach is gorgeous. Off the beaten path, great swimming and amazing view. Only downside is it closes at 4pm and is only open weekends and cruise ship days so make sure you plan ahead! No facilities but so worth it if you want a quiet beach experience.
