The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants and building materials. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile.Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays. « less

My ex-pat niece, who lives with her family on Providenciales and thus missed our recent wedding, booked this exursion on the Atabeyra for a gift based on local friends' raves. They couldn't have been more right. Skipper Tibi and first mate Junior greeted us all -- the two of us, a family of five (3 boys) and two friends vacationing... More

We loved the snorkelling trip that we took on the Atabeyra so much went went on the Sunset Cruise too! We went to two different locations on the snorkelling cruise and got to not only see cool fish, lobster, starfish and conchs, but we also got to climb up and jump off a marooned ship! The sunset cruise definitely lived... More

With four teenagers and a fiend we had the perfect sail/sunset cruise. The captain knew exactly how to play to the dolphins' wishes and the kids got to experience swimming with wild dolphins--up close & personal! Perfect offering of snacks after a tiring snorkel around the reef then on to sail toward a deserted beach. Nice music--excellent high quality sound... More

We had a group of ten that rented the Atabeyra for an afternoon. We had a great time! The waters were a bit rough but the captain was able to find a calm area around a small reef to snorkel. We then sailed to a small private island to hunt sand dollars. On the return portion the engines were cut... More

We sailed on the Atabeyra this past Friday for the happy hour sunset cruise. It was the last night of our honeymoon. The ride was incredibly smooth and pleasant and view of the sunset out on the open water was magical. We met tons of incredibly friendly fellow passengers (including a dear couple that even gave us a lift back... More

We've visited TCI many, many times, and each time make sure to hit our favorite folks at Sun Charters. We've booked half day snorkel and beach trips, glow-worm evening cruises, and my favorite, seeing the beautiful Turks and Caicos sunset on the water. My husband and I have traveled all over, and this still sticks out as one of our... More

We set off about ten in the morning which was perfect due to rum cocktails the night before! We were greeted by the two man crew whom were very friendly and informative. They told us how the day would plan out and told us to keep our fingers crossed for the dolphins! The boat it's self was well equipped with... More

As a meeting planner, I have had many opportunities to participate in various sailing activities. This one was awesome! The group LOVED the snorkeling and the laid back feeling of the boat. The lunch was spectacular - Kissing Fish does a great job with the catering! Tibi and Junior are great hosts and made it a fun adventure!!

Amazing experience! The captain and crew were extremely nice; we checked out out some of the most beautiful reefs and turquoise waters I have ever seen. If you go to the Turks this is the one experience you don't want to miss. also, the boat is huge; very spacious and the best rum punch on the island!
