Taking the late afternoon Caroni Swamp tour is a MUST DO while on Trinidad. The tour thru the swamp is excellent with guides pointing out many things & other animals of interest (including boas sleeping the trees right above our heads.) We boarded the flat bottomed boat at 4pm and set sail down a narrow canal which was sadly littered on both sides. Despite this uninspiring start, the journey soon took on a different quality as the canal widened out and we began to glide past the mangrove trees with their spectacular network of roots extending into the water. I visited the sanctuary a few years ago, and the boat ride through the lush rain forest is out of this world. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and can identify all the snakes crabs and even wild plants. The best part of the trip was seeing the flock of scarlet ibis returning to the nestled uninhabited moat. As for the... more

I have just return back from seeing the Caroni bird sanctuary it was the best view i have ever seen its nice and quiet the tours guides were excellent i hope the sanctuary will always be there thank u for the wonderful view! more
