Romney Manor has a remarkable place in the history of St. Kitts. Its origins date from 1626; one of the original settlers was Sam Jefferson, the great, great, great grandfather of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States. The gardens and grounds of this historic site are absolutely beautiful. Allow yourself at least 30 minutes to enjoy this location.

This was a very interesting establishment. We saw how this beautiful fabric is made and toured the surrounding grounds where there were many native flowers and trees. If you want to buy some of the fabric or clothing produced there it is fairly expensive.

Romney Manor is a lovely property with a large variety of palms and other tropical vegetation. Also on site is a studio where artisans make batik fabrics, also on sale in the gift shop. Definitely a great place to visit while at St Kitts.

It was an interesting place to see the Batik being made and the gardens were beautiful. Doubt I would need to see it again if returning to the island, but glad to be able to see it.

Romney gardens is a beautiful place with beautiful flora, very interesting palm trees. The most interesting thing was to watch the ladies making the Batik. As explained by the lady doing the demonstration, an artist first does pencil drawing on the fabric, then it goes through 7 paintings and processes. They paint with hot wax. The beautiful souvenirs are incredibly... More

We visited Romney Manor as part of an Essential St. Kitts tour as an RCI shore excursion. Looking at the photographs now, I suspect we may have missed a significant part of the botanical gardens, which I guess is more the fault of the tour guide than the gardens. The Batik shop was very interesting, and prices seemed reasonable.

I saw gigantic versions of miniature plants I had grown in the US. It provides an easy walking tour. It was once a sugar plantation owned by Sam Jefferson II.
