Very much enjoyed visiting the interesting ruins of this old fort; some canons still in place; great photos and views at the top. Worth a visit. Don't let the steps stop you; they weren't that bad and we were there on a very HOT day.... take water with you; nothing much at top but the ruins but they were interesting.... More

What others have written is correct. This is a great place to visit if you want to learn more about the island, and have a great spot to overlook the city and ocean. There are 90+ stairs to climb each way, so keep that in mind if you are not able to do stairs. I enjoyed it.

We took a quick detour to visit Fort Louis while we were in Marigot. It didn't take very long (only about 45 minutes including the walk up to the fort), but it was well worth it! The view up there are amazing and well worth the stairs. The stairs themselves are not steep, although the incline is. Lots of people... More

If you want a break from the many beaches in St. Maarten spend 30mins or so here. It is in Marigot and located not too far from the vendors and restaurants downtown. Nice views from the top. Quite a few stairs to climb to get to the top so bring your sneakers.

The Fort Louis is a military fortification founded in 1789 as a way of the French Government to protect Marigot from the British frequent invasions and the diverse pirates` invasions. The Fort had 3 sets of canons and basically some of them and a bit of the old buildings are what still exist in the hill where the complete Fort... More

This is much better Fort then Fort Amsterdam. Great Views of the bay and the island and it has fantastic breeze you will miss as soon as you return down to Margot. There is no admission fee but about 90 steps you need to take to reach the fort. At the open plaza below the fort is open market every... More

Ft. Louis are the remains of a former fort that overlooks Marigot, the capitol of the French side of St. Martin, Caribbean island. While the remains are few, the view is incredible. It's a poto opportunity. Enter through a side street when entering Marigot at the foot of the fort. Enjoy the best French bakery (Sarafina's) once you exit the... More

A wonderful historic fort with a well written history on site. Handicapped individuals should be aware it might be a bit difficult to maneuver around the fort.

Only thing in the fort are a few cannons, prison cell, and stone walls broken up. The hike upstairs is long and only worth seeing the view of the bay. Looking ahead down Blvd de France you can see Fort Louis to save the disappointment going into the fort.

Driving around the island on my scooter rental couldn't ignore seeing this little castle looking fort. The vew from up ther is spectacular, not a lot to see because it's a small fort but definitely worth the hike up there.
