Before the Big Shopping Centers and the New High Scale Housing Neighborhoods were developed Santurce was one of the best living neighborhoods in the Metropolitan Area. Once this new developments started in the late 60's and early 70's people left Santurce and it went downhill after people started moving out of the area and many business started closing or moving.... I go to church in Santurce and can't believe all the new building from a Pueblo store connected to a parking garage to my favorite bookstore/internet cafe. You can see some amazing art work at the art museum and sculptures outside. Then also there is some interesting graffiti around. I will post photos here.

Back in 1991 I travelled there to do some Shopping. The area is quite convenient for the Locals but it does not have an array as the Plazas.

Visited smaller El Sabor de Reina, excellene in filled avocado with shrimps, and larger restaurants in the area. Ranging from local Puerto Rican-Dominican cuisine to upscale Tropical-international. Among those more pretencious-expensive outlets like Santaella. At Santaella we had a chicken liver over toasted breads for Some $12.00 plus some fine Albariño selection. Bartender was friendly, more than helpful, colloquial, and... More

It has been at a slow pace, but the vision of many architects, government leaders, and planners of revitalizing Santurce is coming to pass. After years of identifying abandoned buildings and re-zoning vacant properties in order to bring new life through modern apartment buildings, shops, and fine restaurants, people are coming back to San Juan's original downtown. Fine arts theaters,... More

This is where the locals go. Mainly the crowds over 30, go there for Happy hour. The area is not glamorous, but once you get to the center you will have a good time. Parking may be challenging.

La Placita Santurce, markets by day and on some nights, i think Thursdays and weekends it turns in to a lively night spot for all the locals to hang out and listen to amazing live music on the street and dance the night away. Definitely a true and amazing cultural experience that you will never forget. I hope this review... More

the picture don't make justice to Santurce either , you should take a picture of Ponce de Leon ave because it crosses the Santurce section of San Juan from one side to the other(picture from Ponce de leon & de diego ave) or from Ponce de Leon & calle del Parque
