More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

The Francisco Oller exhibit was wonderful, and the general collection had some good PR artists to see. The grounds were lovely, espec the little lake with some of the most colorful koi I've ever seen! A bit off the beaten track. If you love art, go.

Modern design, interesting artwork, cute gift shop and valet parking! There is another museum and La Placita nearby, great way to spend a day.

Museum is not too large, easy to enjoy two hours there. The exhibits are all Puerto-Rican, so you get a nice view into local life and art. Excellent explanations, including about some key items that are not in the museum. Lovely gardens, with a koi pond.

Lovely, modern mid-sized museum that shows exclusively art by Puerto Rican artists. The island doesn't have much of an extensive fine-art history prior to the 20th century (although the museum does cover earlier P.R. art well), so most of the collection is contemporary. It's a spacious, attractive building, and the paintings and art installations are displayed thoughtfully alongside extensive bilingual... More

I love this art museum, it is a great learning experience for the family. The staff is friendly and the art is beautiful. They add a few items to their collection through time but I never get tired of walking through the museum, even with the same exhibits. There is also an outdoor garden with a few exhibits, enjoyable as... More

We walked here in about 20 min from our hotel. The museum had wonderful Puerto Rican art from local artists. The museum is an amazing visual experience. Take time out of your day to visit this museum; you will not be disappointed.

Amazing trip and exhibits. The architecture, ambience and, of course, the art was par excellence. Don't miss the outside gardens.

This is well worth the visit! The Musuem features solely Puerto Rican art so it's a uniquely cultural experience. The musuem is located in Santurce - halfway between Isla Verde and the old town - and is even accessibly by bus. The admission fee is very reasonable. The curator by one of the galleries was so gracious and I practically... More

Admission later in the evening is free but I believe regular admission was $6. The garden was beautiful and very serene. I loved the little pond with all the colorful fish. The security staff were also very friendly and helpful, I'm not fluent in Spanish and they helped me and my family translate the information about the paintings.
