More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

My daughter and I loved this museum. My favorite type of art museum - compact so you are not overwhelmed, containing art local to Puerto Rico. The galleries were organized by theme, so the art was very diverse in each gallery - something for everyone. We loved how everything was laid out and really enjoyed the permanent collection. The museum... More

The Museo de Arte de Puerto was a very good attraction in the Santurce District of 'New' San Juan. The building structure and design was absolutely magnificent. We were greeted very kindly at the door and given instructions on where to buy our tickets at the gift shop and instructed where the best art was located on the museum map.... More

The building was beautiful and the artwork was interesting. It was not crammed with items. The sculptures and garden was pleasant to stroll through. We were able to get here from Isla Verde via bus. Walked to the Mercado Santurce after our visit.

Worth the 15 minute walk. Beautiful coy pond and some nice art. They had one piece that really touched my soul. Check it out!

I have never been keen about "modern art". This museum has it and more. The local artists are bold and fun. It has entire rooms set up as one exhibit. For instance, a barber shop with multiple actions happening on TV screens as if the shop itself was in NYC. I loved this place enough to treat myself to a... More

There are two galleries. One is classic and the other contemporary. If you have half an hour, it is worth seeing. Free admission.

Couldn't find much literature to read about the real PR? Some time here will help you understand the island and its history. The staff enjoy engaging with visitors about the exhibits.
