Description: More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts...
More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

We enjoyed our visit to this well-adapted art museum. The various displays and rooms were well-thught out and interesting. We were there about 1 1/2 hours. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly; the gift shop had some unusual offerings, with prices from the very affordable to higher-level items.

Very nice art museum. It is not very large, but has a great collection of Puerto Rican artwork. Free on Wednesdays after 2:00, so its worth the trip.

Visited the MoAPR with a local friend and it was great to fully appreciate the art and put it in context. Don't make it a quick visit. Spend time there and try to learn about local PR artists ahead of your visit. Exquisite experience.

A great way to spend an hour or two. Contemporary art from Puerto Rico. If you are in Old San Juan you need to take a taxi but it is worth the trip.

Very beautiful museum. Totally recommend to those who are interested in learning more about the Puerto Rican culture. After you finish watching everything take a look outside to the gardens. Super relaxing place in the middle of the city.

I joined the Museum this year and have attended several events there with friends. Every occasion there has been well worth the membership.

I stumbled upon the museum while out for a walk one day. The exhibits were rich in color and history. The kids' floors (1st and 2nd) were so well done. I was alone, but know my children would have enjoyed it had they been there. Very informative.

Beautiful building and grounds, art is organized by theme rather than chronology which adds a very interesting dimension to the visit. The exhibition is not very big - two wings on two floors, but the quality is great. Of course all of the art is Puerto Rican so don't go expecting Old Masters, but we really enjoyed getting to see... I visited here as part of a tour group recently. I really enjoy art museums and this one was unique; many of the rooms had themed "pop culture" exhibits or contemporary installations. They were quite unique and beautifully done. There were also paintings and other artwork by Puerto Rican artists from the 16th century to the present. Photography is not... More

Unless you are really into the arts I would not make a big effort to see this museum. Some Puerto Rican history but also "pop" art that really was really for a select taste. Gardens are nice but after the rain forest tours not really worth it.
