Some of the photos on this site are for a different market called la Plaza del Mercado Santurce. The Rio Piedras Market is located on Jose de Diego in the Rio Piedras district of San Juan. It has a food court where you can sample the Puerto Rican foods and enjoy the fresh smoothies. We went on Saturday and the... More

"La Placita" as it is known among islanders, is one of the best hangout spots on the island. During the day it may be a regular market but at night it transforms into a very lively entertainment area. Friday nights are the most popular and it gets really really crowded. Everyone hanging out on the streets and inside the many... More

Very local crowd. Grate architecture a few little restorants arond it with local flavor at good value. Weekend evenings gets buzzing. Dont expect much and you will have a nice time.

We checked out La Placida to get a bit of salsa dancing and the San Juan night life. We had a blast! In between the typical island brief rain showers where everyone would huddle under awnings, we danced, drank, and laughed the night away. I had locals helping me learn how to salsa dance and generally showed us a great... More

Give yourself plenty of time to check out all the vendors! We loaded up on fresh fruit and then had empanadas which were delicious!

Farmers market by day - block party at night! I think if I had to pick the best thing we did in PR, this would be it! The dinner at Le Popular restuarant was great and the waiter (who does not speak English) helped us get what we needed! Their mofongo was by far the BEST in Puerto Rico. We... More

This place was recommended by a friend who had lived in PR for some time. It is THE place to go on Friday nights. If you want to enjoy the local culture, lively music, beautiful people, and great food, this is the place to be. We have been there on two trips and visited the plaza both times. We will... More

Only some vendors with little bit of fruits and meat. The fruits are more expensive than US markets. The pineapple are $5-6 ea and mangos $3ea. The foods in food court are not that good. Don't waste your time here!

OMG! This was the first stop on the agenda to go to La placita for dancing in the streets. I had so much fun!!! It was so relaxing and a cool vibe. The people of Puerto Rico are so welcoming and helped us with salsa lessons. The best night the locals say is Thursday and Friday. We went on a... More

I have been there numerous times and it has reduced in vendor size each time. The product is better purchased at a street vendor along the side of the road. The prices are also better by the street vendor
