I have been to the best in NYC. Not even close to this gem. Barmeister Tony is a wizard. Try the Rum Old Fashioned and Rum Sour. Seriously, don´t waste your time anywhere else...and the coolest divey-hip 18th Century decor to boot.

We stumbled upon this place while walking around Old San Juan one evening. This place was actually recommended to us by a couple of bartenders at the other places we were at earlier in the evening (a good sign). As we walked in the bartender greeted us and told us to take our time to order and he'd be happy... More

Tiny hole in the wall seemingly popular with locals. Very high quality cocktails, you can get a pina colada made from shaved and shaken coconut flesh. One of the few places in Old San Juan that isn't a tourist trap.

This is a little of the beaten path but not that difficult to find. On Calle Sol, as if heading towards Fort San Cristobal, you'll find this little bar in a purple building. Don't let the small size fool you because it packs a lot of fun, and the sun could come up before you know it! It's an easy... More

This is the place for meeting locals and enjoying high end cocktails. Neighbors come and go and tell their stories while you try some of Puerto Rico's best mixology.

This is a little bar on Sol street, This has been here since 1968, so this has been around for a while. We found this to be a great little place to wait some time while we were waiting for a table at the restaurant across the street. Here is a tip - We discovered a new drink called the... More

We went to El Farolito on 21 March 2012 and it was under construction without any notice stating when it would reopen. So take your chance.

My boyfriend and I had previously read on trip advisor that El Farolito was highly recommended--and we couldn't agree more! We went to it on our last night in Old San Juan and spent around 5 hours there playing chess on the bar's counter. The bartender was also so sweet and very friendly. It was such a blast and I... El Farolito has the best mofongo in Old San Juan (get the yuca, so flaky and delicious!) The waitstaff is phenomenal - always ready with a suggestion and bawdy tale. For a nightcap, try their Chichaito - and be sure to ask for the name translation. Perhaps best of all, this locals-loved bar is overlooked by most of the cruise-goers,... More
