boat trip was ok, guide was knowledgeable, crocs were cool - we did this trip as a three stopper (black river, appletons, ys falls) none of the 'tours' were individually worth the travel time or cost, but together it made an ok day out

Jamaican kids are very well behaved. My son threw a big tantrum in the outdoor market. I think the local vendors thought it was funny to see a kid so wild. There is really nothing to do in black river. The market is ok. There is an ATM or two if you need one. The town in pretty scraggly.

We stopped at the Black river on the way to the Appleton Estate Rum Distillery. The "Black" is due to Peat moss that grows on the bottom. The water is actually clear. Their are many alligators and the boat drivers will stop and chant "COME COME COME" and several will swim up to the boat. Trained Alligators? Sure.. when you... More

We were not sure about this Tropical Tour booked from Runaway Bay due to the long day we were warned about up front. 12 hours. First we headed out to the Appleton Rum Factory, quite a ride, but made one stop to stretch and grab a snack if needed. Then we headed for The Rum. Fun tour, informative, not a... More

Went on the boat trip down the river to see the crocodiles. It was very good with a fun 'captain' giving information and jokes in good measure. Lots of birdlife and the crocs were impressive. Only downside was the terrible state of the roads we used to get there which made for an uncomfortable ride in the small coach. However... More

part of our transat tour. Really enjoyed the boat ride through the mangrove on the Black River. Saw a few gators. Apparently it's better to go in full sun to see the gators. They come out in the sun. Would go again and recommend it to friends.

Only time I've ever seen gators in the wild! They were huge! Sunning themselves on the shore. Boat ride into the mangroves was beautiful and peaceful. Our guide hired a local fisherman to take us up river and then down river and out to sea to visit the Pelican Bar. Fantastic and scenic time!

Leaving Black River on Crane Road, after 2 miles +, you reach a 'roundabout' (somewhat like a semi-circle road division). Stay on what some call Crane Road (follows the beach), immediately after this round-about, you will see the Paradise Ocean View. Servers/waiters/waitresses are fantastic and the owners/managers are delightful. The food is mostly a Jamaican style but very, very good.... More
