This trip was done mostly by catamaran.Pretty much liked everything. Boat ride was a bit long but bearable....The caves were interesting, especially the one with the bats. Oh, the bats don't bother you as they are high up inside the save.

It was great fun on the boat, fantastic journey.
The caves themselves were interesting and the bird life fascinating.
Once the rum came out things got more lively and the sea was a little more bouncy. Great for some but not for those with with a fear of water. Worth what we paid for the trip and not to be...

We went on a boat trip to the caves and it was ok, the guide was good and kept us entertained. I would not really reccommend this as we only saw caves and birds. Not good for those with mobilty issues, confined spaces or vision problems (its dark in caves) When we booked it we thought we would be walking in...

Use a tour operator (Flora is fine). Hope for a calm day on the bay (Bahia) as most of your time is in an open boat, so bring a hat (hold onto it) water and suscreen. Insist on an English speaking guide (French predominates). If you like nature this is for you.
We don't often think about how distructive the history of the "discovery" of North America by the Spaniards was but a walk in the caves with a guide to see the petroglyphs brings this home in a very graphic way.
The sail around the little islands and through the mangrove forests is just magical. This is a must do if...

fantastic excursion, well worth every penny from the amazing islands, mangroves, caves, cave paintings and wildlife to the informative guides and boat crew a true experience
We visited Los Haitises in April 2013 with Flora Tours ($70 per pesron, all day tour that includes lunch and a visit to Taino Park).
We took a fast boat that seats 20 across the bay to the park, with two guides (1 English, 1 French). We toured the islands and saw a wide variety of birds and caves. Visited...

We visited Los Haitises while on vacation in Samana this April. We booked the excursion through our West Jet vacation rep.
We absolutely loved the picturesque islands lining the coast. They were round with steep cliffs, something I would picture seeing in South-East Asia. The dozens of birds flying overhead were very entertaining to watch as well.
I found the...

I took this all day excursion with Flora Tours (a company I recommend). Our English-speaking guide, Henry, was very knowledgeable (and when he realized I was interested in birds, he directed the captain to slow or stop when he spotted an exotic species). We saw nesting pelicans and frigate birds in mating season when the males puff up their red...

Boats, birds, and bat caves...how could it miss? The excursion from Samana to Los Haitises National Park was amazing. The boat trip alone is worth the cost of admission; cruising across Samana Bay under the warm Caribbean sun. The flora and fauna of the Park's tidal marsh and mangrove swamp are breathtaking. It is home to several species of pelican,...
