We went to Punta Cana with Soltour, we were convinced at orientation that rio chavon + isla saona package was well worth the 150€.... nope. By some of the comments here I realize there are different types of tours to rio chavon. So I feel our unsatisfactory experience was because of the type of tour and the tour operator, not... More

Saw the Altos de Chavon village first, then took the river cruise. Very peaceful and relaxing after hours in the sun. Free drinks, even fresh pineapple ones. Not much to see, but nice to sit down and relax and cool off.

Only claim to fame is that a scene in Apocalypse Now was filmed here ... so.... not convinced it makes it a "must-see" spot.

Such pretty scenery and very calm waters. We took a tour down the river on private boats and it was totally worth it. The houses along the river are amazing and you also see horses and other animals along the way.

We went on a riverboat tour as part of cruise package. The boat had seats with sun cover. There were no washrooms on the boat. The staff was very lively . We got free rum punch or sofa drinks. We didn't see any wild life.

Our Dominican Republic Regent Cruise ship excursion took us to Altos and the Chavon River. The Chavon is a pretty gently winding river with good birds to see! Some call the views breathtaking which I think is an overstatement. However, we had a good time on the paddlewheel boat and the weather was spectacular. The town of Altos was close... More

we visited as part of an organised boat ride with Seavis Tours in Bayahibe. We took a river boat up a section of the river where we saw Osprey, Vulture, Turtles along with many other birds. The views were breathtaking and it was so serene and peaceful. I could have spent all day on the boat watching the world pass... More

Relaxing, quit, beautiful, greenish a touch to nature. Romantic... A dream! Travelers should be aware of the need to ware confutable shoes, because of the rocky pavement.

Beautiful views of the river from the cliffs and restaraunt of Altos de Chavon. One can see the small boats go up and down the river as they head out to the mouth of the river, outside Casa de Campo

Up and down river on the boat excursion and realistically, the only thing to see are really tall cliffs on each side, thats all!
