La Romana is in the Dominican Republic (http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=92 ). We had previously stayed at an all inclusive, now called Be Live Hamaca Beach in Boca Chica. We took a tour to Santo Domingo which highlighted the oldest church in the Americas, locations where Christopher Columbus stayed and where his son the governor ruled. That is why our decision was to... More

Lanscapes are amazing and is a good place to take some pictures. you can find hand crafts... More

The view from the top of the river below and the golf course is wonderful. And if you deiced to take your own golf cart to the top find the back road its a wonderful drive past some of the most beautiful estates on the compound. Be aware that the cruise ships bring buses up so if you want to... More

I was recently treated to a visit to Altos de Chavon, a beautiful and charming recreation of a medieval Italian village. The website of Casa De Campo, the exclusive resort that operates Altos de Chavon, states, "Altos de Chavon was built as a center of culture for the Dominican people. Dominican residents, tourists and working artists, flock to this magically... More

Coming into Altes De Chavon is very charming, but what do the builders actually tried to represent ? The past Roman Empire, mixed with some Gothic and Greek influence ? The beautifull amphiteatre reminds me a bit of the one in Toarmina in Sicily (greek style) but then the Etna is missing ! I have to agree, it is a... More

Don't feel like going to the beach? You want to see & visit something different? Visit the Altos de Chevon Village. Just say you're with the cruise ship and the entrance fee is only $5.00 pp. We were three couples, we hired Victor and his mini-van for the day at $20.00 pp. We went to the village, had a little...
