I'm glad we visited this museum as we learned a lot about the minerals indigenous to this island. They were very anxious for us to make a purchase.

A history lesson on top of the tour. You will know all about the Jurassic Park symbol after this one

I enjoyed it. Lots of interesting facts abut the Amber, and Larimar which is native to DR. Also got a really pretty ring from the shop, and my boyfriend got 2 Dominican cigars there as well.

This was part of a trip to Puerta Plata. It was good to see the displays but we weren't left in peace to look around as we wished.

The actual museum small and kind of dark making it hard to see some of the exhibits. Not to mention most of the exhibits just seemed to be different insects stuck in amber. If you're really into amber then I imagine it would be very interesting but I found it somewhat underwhelming.

Small but interesting. Displays showing formation of amber, fossils, mining, jewelry making, etc. Also saw Larimar (Dominican blue turquise-like stone) museum and jewelry making.

The museum was nice and has good information. The man that took us through it rushed, and at the end pushed our entire party to buy amber and larimar at some steep prices. In addition they tried to make us photocopy our driver's licenses or id's in order to process visa payments. This should not happen anywhere. We left unsatisfied... More

Nice overview of what amber is, it's different colors, and what has been trapped in this resin for thousand of years. It is said that the dirtier the amber (leaves, insects, etc) brings more luck. BEWARE when you buy, i bought a beautiful ring with amber and another local stone, SUPPOSEDLY in silver. 3 days later it lost it's luster... More

i didn't like how pushy the sales people where, but i understand that's how they make a living, i did like however how friendly they where upbeat and the museum was very nice and informative.

Definitely visit. Great place. Well kept and lots of very interesting things to see. I wouldn't recommend you go if you have already, but if you haven't do go!
