Large ugly concrete building that acts as a lighthouse, something we never saw during our stay in SD. Time and wheater has an impact on the building and surrounding park. Ok for a quick photo but nothing else. Outside you will see one of the first pope vehicles in a really bad state. The place clearly shows what you can... More

Columbus lighthouse (Faro a Colon) is an impressive landmark and in its beginnings used to be an impressive place to visit. Well kept museum and the lighthouse was something out of this world (It could be seen from the whole city) After years of sub-par maintenance it may not be a shadow of what it used to be.

The Columbus "Lighthouse" is not really a lighthouse but a huge building which defies logic. If you would fly over it, you would see a "Catholic" cross. It's been build during the Trujillo dictatorship and only finished later under the Balaguer "regime" (Balaguer was democratically elected but had a history of power under Trujillo). The building is what was meant... More

We stopped here as a group and got the tour. This was constructed in 1992 for the pope's visit for the 500 year anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovering the new world. It is considered a lighthouse and apparently has a cross shape when lit up. They have the pope's car on display out front and there is an impressive marble... More

The only interesting thing we saw was the Columbus tomb. The rest was borind and was not even authentic artifacts. Employees lazy on the phones. The lights went out and not one got up their seats to do anything. I was upset we paid to see nothing.

Went here during the day. Saw the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Also learned history about other places he "discovered" in the Americas. My favorite part of this place was the room which held pictures of the Virgin Mary with the name she is known by throughout the Americas.

Is it a big structure? Yes. Does it look old? Yes, but really, it isn’t anywhere near as old as it looks. It was built in the 80s-90s. I’m trying to understand this structure, it looks impressive on the outside, but it is nowhere near as impressive on the inside. Why? There is a nice marble statue in the center... More

Visited this monument with mixed feelings as I am not a fan of Christopher Colombus but hey, after 20 plus years of visiting the Dominican Republic, finally decided to check it out with a visiting group of Italian friends who do not share my opinion of Columbus.

very interesting building, did not get to go up close because of timing with tour but very neat and lots of history and stories about the place. Many great photo areas to see.

I will never understand why monuments are made (and millions paid!) for colonists that murder the native people and then bring in slaves from other lands to further exploit the land! Visitors come from all over the world to see this monument. I saw sadness. Goliath monument. Seen that and did not buy the T shirt. If you are in... More
