It's a windswept, cloud covered lake. You'll only get fleeting views of it. But the flora along the trail is like a botanical garden. We had the pleasure of having a guide who had studied Botany at a local university. If you're interested in reaching him, send me a message. However, we ran into other guides he knew and many... We had some time to kill and had been asked by a couple locals if we had seen the Freshwater lake. Because of this we thought it must be something to see. Not so much. It was cloudy, cold, windy, and just not inspiring. It looked like any old lake at home and I just wasn't in to it. We... More

Nice location, great to visit depending on the time of year. A bit cold in October. Still a great site

If you love to hike, this is definitely a beautiful place to do it. There are various trails and the scenery is breath-taking. You can also go for a swim in the lake and kayak as well.

We walked to the lake from Grand Fond along the Chemin L'Etang trail which is a bit overgrown, so we really felt like we'd earned our view of the beautiful Freshwater Lake. When we arrived the cloud had lifted and we got a good view, but bear in mind it's often cloudy and rainy up here so bring a waterproof.... More

It is a small lake, easily reached by car. The drive is probably more spectacular - as most drives are, in Dominica - than the lake itself. We come from the land of lakes, so, admittedly we are a bit jaded ;-). There is a 45 minute hike to Boeri Lake nearby...do that...more interesting.

We walked up to Freshwater Lake from the junction to Laudat (we'd taken the bus from Rouseau) without a problem. Don't miss walking around the trail at the lake -- the views (and vegetation) are spectacular. Nearby is a second lake which is also interesting. We're looking forward to coming back and exploring more of Morne Trois Pitons National Park!

On your way you'll pass the highest driving point on the island "approx. 2700 feet". Once you get there, you'll see a very large (and deep) fresh water lake. You can go out kayaking on it.

The lake itself was beautiful and so tranquil but there is little to do once you've seen it! You can walk part of the way around the lake and can get a lovely view from higher up. It is cool and windy because the lake is situated high up in the mountains. It is great to see but you wouldn't... More
