Well worth a visit. The model gives a good overview of the old city (there's also a model of the whole of the city further west; didn't go), and if you're lucky, you might eavesdrop on somebody else's guided tour and learn a bit. Hang around for the change of lights.

The model of Havana is worth visiting if you are in Playa. It gives you a really good sense of the city... especially areas that you are unlikely to see as a visitor to the city. I was told that it is "under renovation" because a tourist had an accident there last year. Many Cubans still visit here though. If... More

In mid-May 2012, I visited the site of Maqueta de la Habana and found the gates closed and locked with chains. My driver asked around and was told the building is closed for remodeling with no indication when it will re-open.

Do see the model before you embark on discovering the City, then re-visit it again at the end of your trip - gives you an impressive perspective on the City!

This seems an unlikely attraction - a scale model of the entire (huge) city of Havana, but we hired a local professor of urban planning and got a fascinating lecture on the growth and history of this remarkable city. Havana suffers the same fate as LA - spreading endlessly in every available direction, with little or no public transportation. New... More

The entire city of Havana can be seen during the day and night. Not only does it have lights, but also ships and the detail is bloody amazing. It's free and very educative, should you have a few minutes, its a must see.
