Havana, like many other former Spanish cities in the Caribbean, has lots of charming squares. This one is nice because it is open on one side and framed by several interesting colonial buildings on the other sides, including an old cathedral (which you can pay to climb up in its tower). The square also has an art museum. Which often... More

Our walking tour of Old Havana started at this plaza. Our end point was the Plaza de Catedral with a 1/2 hour museum visit in the Plaza Armas area. We were alloted about 2 hours with 3/4 hr free time for Old Havana. This Plaza, located close to the harbor and Malecon area, is dominated by the huge old 1700's... More

The church and the square on which it fronts are a worthwhile stop on your walking tour of Old Havana. Each of the buildings on the square is an architectural example of a slightly different period in Havana's history. They are attractive and photographable. The church itself is lovely.

Historic old buildings, oldest convent, oldest church in hemisphere or some such claim. A good place to climb to tower for overview photo shots.

This is a cobblestoned square in the old city very near the wharf. When I was there they had an exhibition of painted bears from all over the world. It made the square very vibrant, lots of people checking out the bears. If there is no art exhibition then the square would not be as interesting, but still not to... More

Lovely Square, lots of people and pigeons fluttering about. When I went there was also an outdoor art exhibit which added a little extra color.

I was in Havana for a week and no matter what time of day I visited the square I could not for love nor money gain access into the chapel. The square is surrounded by cafe's and restaurants and very handy for the post office.

There is an old cathedral here too. Beside the Cathedral is the statue of a friar with his hand on the shoulder of an indigenous youth. This is a statue of friar Junipero Serra, currently in the process of beatification - becoming a saint. In the San Francisco (CA) Bay Area this beatification is somewhat controversial. It may be that... More

The squares of Havana are delightful and provide a gathering spot for locals and visitors. There will be pop up food trucks and book sellers. Wonderful just to walk around and breathe in Havana
