Playas de Este is the solution to visiting Havana (that has no beaches) and still getting to swim in the ocean. Many hotels in Havana have a swimming pool. However it' s not the same thing as experiencing the real thing. Therefore, if the ocean is what you' re after, you have to hire a cab (15 CUC, one way,... More

It's laid back, and you can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas. Beer and cold beverages are served by friendly natives.

Palm trees, warm seas and lovely sand only about 25mins drive from habana vieja...$5 return with the tourist bus from outside Parque Central or a bit more if you share a taxi..during the week this beach is relaxing but on the weekends, all the locals come out to play which is great if you're up for more lively beach experience.

My sister and I stayed at Hotel Tropicoco at Playa Santa Maria for two weeks. What a great choice we made staying there. This beach is so nice it goes on and on from each direction in front of our hotel. The busiest section is in front of Hotel Tropicoco, and the T3 bus from Havana will take you there.... More

Beautiful, empty beach during the week. Crazy and dirty on the weekends. Why must reviews be 100 characters. That is a cheeky.

I enjoyed the beach area, drinking Cuban rum with locals under the shade of a nice tree near the water. I told these locals to leave me alone after our drink in the afternoon and did not leave me ( they told me that I am their responsibility and whatever happen to me if they leave it will be a... That's a nice tour if you'd like to see a cuban beach away from resorts. The villages are rarely frequented by tourists, that's a good place if you like to see local's "real life" out of the beaten track. The beaches are full on the high season weekends, and the sea is the well-known caribbean-colored one...

and respite from Havana. Great beach with cheap beers and good swimming. Santa Maria - just a quick bus trip from town...and worth it!
