No visit to Barbados is complete without seeing the fascinating history of rum manufacture. Mount Gay's old factory is in the heart of this small but varied island, so a visit there takes you into its agricultural past. Rum played a critical part in British naval history and the prosperity Barbados. It is found on the shelves of bars around... More

The tour was great, the tour guides excellent and the rum my Goodness perfect. After the first cocktail they could have taken us to a white room and we would have been happy. After the sixth tasting I felt like singing and all was well with the world. The lunch was yummy. The only thing is the tour went a... More

The tour has both historical and educational significance. During the tour there is a sampling of 3 types of rum. At the end of the tour is a 4th sampling. It can be leisurely coming and going as nobody will make you leave at the end. The gift shop is ok, not great.

I think I was expecting more and was a little disappointed. We did the rooms, video and tasting, bur our guide said she was just getting back from sick leave and wasn't going to take us into the bottling section unless it stopped raining (which it didn't all day). I'm not sure how much we missed since we never saw... More

I love this place. Upon entry, you are given a refreshing drink either alcoholic or not and then the history lesson begins. The narrative is interesting, informative and humourous. I was lucky enough to have a 'Red Cap' which gets you free entry, but the cost is reasonable anyway. There is a short film and then for the best bit... More

Rum was born in Barbados. The Mount Gay Rum Refinery tells the story. This is actually the bottling and shipping facility. The distillery is many miles inland. There is a small museum and a short movie of about 15 minutes. Then you are given a tasting of four of their rums. The quantity of the pours was above average. After... More

Well worth a visit if you are in Bridgetown. This really is an excellent tour, showing you how rum is produced, the history of it all, a tour of the factory and the bottling plant, a sample of several of the rums, and to finish in the bar with some great bar staff ready to offer all sorts of cocktails!... Confirm opening times on the day before you visit as they were doing a stock take so the first tour wasn't until 10:30. Luckily there is a beach across the road where we killed the time. We did the standard $10 Bajan tour. Consisted of a short talk, 12 minute video about production process, tasting and look round the bottling... More

There was no shortage of free rum on our visit here. An interesting tour and just about the right length. Lots of tots to try and a welcome rum punch. Well worth the visit. Also a great souvenir shop on site.
