Pretty nice grounds. Horses and jockeys appeared very professional. Enjoyed front row seats at the stadiums

Surprisingly, there are very good horses in Barbados. Many owners fly their horses from England or Canada to Barbados for the winter months. At the Garrison, you can get right up to the track and if you are staying nearby, can watch in the mornings as they take the horses down to the sea to wash them. The races themselves... More

If you are around on a Saturday, then it's worth having a look at the hustle and bustle of race day! No need to pay to get into the stands - there is plenty of space to see the horses race from outside the race course itself as the racecourse more or less forms a roundabout in the Garrison area!... When George Washington house was closed on Saturday my daughter and I walked around the track taking photos and exploring the old Historic Buildings. We found a small and rare shady spot and watched a couple of races from the rail around the track. Actually, from the rail one can see much more clearly and close up the look on... More

This old fort is quite a large building, with a courtyard centre, where no doubt the troops would have drilled and been inspected every day . It is an imposing building , strongly built to withstand attack . In the 17century many se faring nations were staking claims to Caribbean Islands , as well as a large number of Privateers... More

We went for the last 2 races, no need to pay as you can just stand on the side, we were in a great location as we were by the railings where the horses go into the stalls. Good couple of hours

You have to watch the changing of the guard at Main Guard in Garrison. Queen Victoria chose their uniforms and that woman obviously had taste! They are all so focussed, yet very Caribbean - don't get there too early - go for 12 noon

We arranged to be part of a tour of the garrison, a half day trip that included George Washington's house, the recently opened tunnel to the coast as well as many other parts of the garrison and I can't recommend it enough! The whole tour was amazing, our guide James was so passionate about his island and her history that... More
