Despite the windmill's National Trust website, the vanes are not attached to the mill and lay to the side covered in debris. The website explains that the vanes are attached from February through July and operate on Sundays. However, as of today (Monday, April 6th) the vanes are not attached and it certainly doesn't look like they were yesterday either.... more

A drive to see the historic attractions of the northern part of the island is well rewarded. Morgan Lewis Mill is close by Nicholas Abbey, one of the oldest manor houses in the English speaking Caribbean and within sight of the beautiful, unspoiled east coast. there is only two working wind mills in the whole Caribbean this one and one in Antigua, so lets face it if you ever wanted to see how it works then visit while you have a chance, the mill has been restored view a short film, however the surrounding plantation has has long since past a tourist attraction, so not... more

A bit out-of-the-way (you'll need a rental car!) but definately worth a short visit. Reconstruction is still underway on the outlying buildings, but the short film and exhibits do a fine job of explaining how this (the only remaining, working mill) still operates. You'll also get an insight into how sugar cane made these Caribbean islands so important. A walk... more
