Landing in St. John's from Oriana my wife and I wanted to spend the day relaxing on a quiet beach. We shared a cab with 2 other couples who had discovered the beach on a previous visit. It was just what we were looking for; a beautiful beach full of rustic charm. A quiet bar with friendly staff serving drinks... More

We just returned from a cruise with a stop over in Antigua. After reading SEVERAL wonderful great reviews about this place, this was definitely on my list as a MUST. There were 8 adults in total in our group so off we went. When I mentioned it to the taxi driver, he said it's run down. I said well I... More

Runaway Beach was just a short walk from our hotel on Dickensen Bay, so one afternoon we decided to stroll over and take a look. Didn't like what we saw. A lot of litter (even a junk car) in the bushes at the top of the beach. Hotel at the end of the beach looks to be on its last... More

If on a cruise ship don't go to the popular beaches, go to Runaway Bay Beach. Beautiful sand and mild waves, lots of beach to walk, trees for shade, lounge chairs (newer plastic ones) and unbrellas for rent ($5 each), funky little restaurant, showers and changing rooms. You won't want to leave. Only a short taxi ride from town or... More

Unless you are staying nearby, there are much nicer beaches to visit. Long Bay, Half Moon or even Dickinson Bay just up the road. This one feels unkempt and sad. It is the closest spot for cruise ship passengers, and most of the positive recommendations seem to be coming from them. Do you want a 10-minute cab ride from St.... More

Recently visited this beach while cruising on the Adventure of the Seas (RCCL). We have visited this beach on many occassions in the past, and it is still our favorite beach in Antigua. If you want peace and quiet, and are a true sun worshiper, this is the beach for you. A short taxi ride from the Pier (about 10... More

Cruising on RCCL's Adventure of the Seas with our husbands, we are two couples who shun the cruise line sponsored tours and are happiest spending a day in port at a nice quiet relaxing beach. We were all looking forward to returning to our favorite Runaway Beach on Antigua which is a quick 10 minute cab ride from the taxi... More

Knowing we had a cruise stop on Antigua I had researched beaches there and decided on Runaway Bay. No photos or reviews showed me it was a small beach closed in by a barrier of large rocks to prevent the surf from reaching the shoreline. It was really quiet and private. There was only two other people there. We rented... More

as fine as talcum powder....washed by deep turquoise bath water warm seas....and you have the Runaway beach. Taken there by local taxi driver with a small party of 6 others...early one morning....and we were the only people there...tranquil...time and space to yourself... Went to this as part of the cruise in 2011...and the photos have been a screen saver at... More

We went there during a cruise last year. Taxi driver seemed surprised we knew about it. We got there early, and we were the only non-locals there for an hour. Waves were a bit rough and I managed to get scraped on the sand, but this is an outstanding beach. My wife and son took a short horse ride (horses... More
