This was a great hike. We just did the two hour hike, coming back from Isalo and it was fantastic. Wear good shoes, you'll be doing a lot of climbing over massive boulders. Beautiful views and lemurs and more lemurs. Worth a stop, wish we had time for a longer stay.

This was probably our favorite experience in Madagascar, though I'd recommend only staying 3 hours or so. It's a small park with many ring-tailed lemurs. In addition to their distinctive look, these animals are so fun because they are relatively comfortable around humans and they play around on the ground as well as the trees. You can get up within... Anja Reserve is a local park near the Ambalavao (10 km) where you can see ring-tailed lemurs, chameleons, climb the rocks and see the caves. Would recommend 2-3 hours tour if you are just passing by. There are plenty of local guides. There is also an average restaurant, souvenir shops and rooms if you are staying for the night. Note:... More

Tourists want to see ring-tailed lemurs, the local community sees the land has greater value as a forest than as a slash-and-burned agricultural field, and lemurs have some wilderness to live in, content to be admired by happy tourists. Everyone benefits. We saw lemurs up close with babies, and they seemed quite accustomed to the presence of people. Also Oustalet's... More

If at all in the neighbourhood; DO stop by to spot many ring tailed lemurs -guaranteed- and support this community run reserve at the same time. Mornings or afternoons are best to avoid the shop-and-run-tourist busses that frequent this place, I decided to spend a night in one of Jean Pierre's bungalows and enjoy his wife's great cooking; well worth... I ran out of time to do the deep south, I still must go back and get there but I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see my favourite lemurs (I now actually have my favourite varieties of lemur! They are the most incredible animals on earth! :) ) up close in the wild and spent a lot of... More

It's a good co-op of the local community. It's touristy, but it's the easiest place to see the ringtail lemurs up close. We took lots of pictures here. We did a short hike up and down around the granite rocks. It's relatively easy, but there were a few spots you do need to use your hands. The guides were good... More

but be prepared it is very touristy. You get to close to the ring talled lemurs, it is more the benefit than the lemurs for the villagers. But you have to go otherwise the forest won't exist.
