We booked the cooking class before we left Melbourne and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. Initially I was more excited about the cooking class than the fact of getting up and ready at the wee hours of the morning to go to the markets too. As we had too meet up at 6am I was a... More

Booked a market tour and cooking class for 4 blokes here on hols (with wives). Two who like cooking and two are less interested. Fancy getting up so early when on vacation. Drove from Seminyak to Jimbaran (Maccas) to meet our fellow classmates and drive to the local market. Firstly a short discussion on Balinese herbs, spices etc whilst “enjoying”... More

My husband and I attended this cooking school recently. The early morning start was definately worth it - a visit to the markets and the fish markets. Heinz von Holzen is very passionate about all things food - and all things Balinese culture, and an inspiring teacher. The breakfast back at the restaurant was superb, and we learnt more about... This is very popular - courses are regularly booked up at least 2 weeks in advance, so you really need to book in advance. The market trip is well worth the early start (6am) - you get to see a real market in action, not the tourist traps that you see on most of the tours. The cooking class is... More

I tried booking the cooking class prior to my arrival, via email, but it was sold out for our preferred date. We requested they contact us should something open up. Lo and behold, they left a message at our hotel letting us know our day had opened up and I'm glad it did. Overall Heinz is hilarious, the food was... More

This cooking class was recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. I booked and paid before I arrived. I took my 12 year old son who had a ball – of course his favourite part was eating all the food we made at the end. The setting is great and the chef Heinz has a wealth of experience... More

Five of us booked our class before we left Australia. Make sure you book so you don't miss out. The class is run three days per week. Starts at 6 am, trip to the markets to learn about the fresh produce and meats. Then on to the fish markets teaching us what to look for and avoid. Back to the... More

The instructor is a Swiss who was head chef at Ritz Carlton, etc and he knows his stuff! You don't do any cutting but learn a lot about local food. Make sure you do the morning "market" portion too -- great tips about selecting fresh fish. More

Early start to the markets and then back to Rumah Bali for breakfast and then the class. It was more a watch and learn with some participation rather than everyone have their own cooking station. I learned a lot about Balinese food. You also get to eat what you've cooked for lunch. Heinz and his team are excellent. More

We experienced a wonderful day which began at the markets, continued at the cooking school and concluded with a very special journey to the beach to set free a hundred or so baby turtles!!! Everything about our day was enjoyable. I am a passionate foodie and I wasn't at all disappointed with the cooking lesson or meal... all superb! Staff... More
