Well laid out. An insight into this famous Greek artist. A bit out of the way, but well-worth the visit. Primitive art at it's best. A trip through Greek history and folk life.

This museum displays many paintings by one of the most popular Greek painters, born in Varia.He lived here with his mother when he wasn't wandering around the country painting naïf, colorful realistic paintings of rural or historical scenes which you can see here - as well as on the walls of some old cafés. This gentleman was a naive painter which later became famous.I understand that naive painting can be a good art form but ,with my apologies , I did not like what I saw . Sorry !

Theofilos was the most well known naiv painter of Greece. His works exposed at the museum are all great, though the museum itself needs a lot of work in order to be good enough to deserve his legacy.

I was fortunate to view Theofilos' works in this setting many years ago and it was the highlight of an extended stay on the island.
